Oh Wow. So much to say about this podcast.
1st of all, I wanted to say thank you to Whitney for something COMPLETELY non-podcast related. A while ago I was looking for good references for my Dahlia Mason from Shattered Memories cosplay costume. I contacted you about your images you used for your Dahlia Mason profile on your website and in like 3 days you got back to me with all the photos you could. You could have easily been like “Screw You. I bought this art book/walk thru, you buy your own!” But you didn’t and that’s awesome and my costume wouldn’t have been the same without your references. Thank you.
Okay, now talk of the podcast!
1st of all. OMG! Did you guys read my mind or what about Book of Memories. The other day, on the LJ Silent Hill Community someone posted about the game and everyone was just bashing, bashing, bashing. Claiming it was gonna ‘ruin the series,’ and I said, “Well it’ll probably be like Silent Hill Arcade. It exists but only like 10 people care.” So when you guys said that I was just like OMG! AGAIN same page. Someone was like, “Its gonna be like Shattered Memories… same kinda aestetic, but like another universe and then compared it to Star Wars. OMG! The other day I was telling someone that’s what I hoped it would be for BoM. And I compare Shattered Memories to the Marvel alternate Universe all the time. I explain to people, I love Rogue in X-men and then the alternate universe came out and everyone was like, “This sucks.” But I was happy for my favorite character, Rogue, because in the AU she got to be with someone she could kinda touch. And although it wasn’t the universe I had grown up with and new and loved, I still like the AU for that reason. A different take on my favorite characters. That’s what I felt about SH:SM.
Yes, I also agree its too cartoony looking right now. I’ll probably play it, just to see where it connects to the games I know and love, maybe it will give out a few more secrets about things. For instance… maybe it will tell me about characters in the games we didn’t know much about… I don’t know. That possibility keeps me playing the games really. And if it doesn’t. Oh well. I’ll put it on the shelf and never pick it up again.
Okay, next topic. DOWNPOUR! I need to know what forum you guys frequent the most because I played Downpour at SDCC and I video taped another person playing it. And some of the stuff you talk about in this episode was in it. Like I didn’t see the weapons glitter as much at SDCC as I did in the E3 trailer. I also ran into some glitches in the Demo, just stuff like that. I’m currently in the process of moving (thus the long times in the car), but when I do download it, I wanna be able to post it somewhere you can see. I think they also scaled back on the red if I remember correctly.
I also wanted to point out, that the filter may have been taken out of the game because the artistic nature behind the game is water. Not to much grain if water washes everything away. From what I could tell in playing it, I almost feel like the game has a constant damp feeling. ALSO there was one part that did have a bit of filter/grain to it. And that’s when the light chases you. So definitely used for effect there.
I’ll go more into that when I get a chance to upload the video and post it.
3rd, and this goes towards Silent Evil/Jason. I feel kind of… I don’t know. Bad? I think that’s kinda the word I wanted to use. I could tell you were a bit frustrated with maybe the ‘Purist’ comment I made a few posts back. And when you were getting angry about it in the podcast, I felt like I might have possibly been a bit to vague on what I meant which made me seem… shitty? towards SH Fans like yourself that do not like some of the new stuff about SH, specifically in the voice acting for SH HD. For that, I am sorry. I have a very hard time with fans of the older games sometimes because of videos like what were posted in the past podcast post. People who are only happy with 1-3 and when they see these new games, they have horrible opinions of them (which they have every right too). I’m just not a fan of them when they say things like how they hope people die or when they get this attitude towards fans like myself, “Who are not true fans because they don’t feel the same way I do.” If that make sense. I don’t mean it to be degrading to call them ‘Purists,’ and if I offended you with that I’m very sorry.
And, I like James voice. That’s it. I think Maria sounds like she’s trying to hard to be sexy so she got a cold. But I’m still gonna buy the game because I want to play it on my Xbox and I want the remastered sound. Nothing makes me happier about SH then the sounds, so hearing them in surround sound remastered. HELL YEA! If selling these games gives Konami more of a reason to come out with new merch for these games, HELL YEA. About a year ago they sold the rights to a company to make some new SH Merch. Most the stuff made was for Homecoming. (I’m sure you collectors know that, right? Hell, you probably know more about merch then I do, I don’t own much of it cause I spend to much on cosplay) But they made like a wallet for SH2 and a bag for SH3. If the SH HD brings out like t-shirts and action figures and stuff. More power to the remake.
And I think that’s about it. I hope next time I have the ability to take notes on the podcast myself. Its hard to remember all the things I wanted to say while I was listening.

I like your reason behind Downpour not having the filter all the time. Of course such a water heavy game wouldn’t have the dry and dusty filter we are used too, it would look out of place in the damp surroundings.
GE Animation right? I was surprised to see some official SH merch here in the states the last year or so. I can’t say I’m a fan of all the designs for the products but it makes me happy the game is getting some merchandising. I hope that means we can see less SHH stuff and more in the SH-SH4 and DP vain in the future…I do like my Robbie bag!
i would just liked to say ive played the original silent hill 2 and i don’t really care with the new voice acting in the HD collection because we have played so many games like resident evil and many others and alot of characters have had voice actor changes and we haven’t really cared so why should we care now and im happy about the HD collection because i played silent hill 2 to death and i didnt get to play Silent Hill 3 but im also looking forward to achievements so that would be cool to get them on the XBOX360 plus i am so stoked for Downpour because this would be good to reinvigorate the series after playing that game they call Silent Hill Homecoming (shit) Keep up the good work

yes i will whitney i will tell you what i think of Silent hill 3 i did get to have a go of a demo but when i wanted to get the full copy eb GAMES SAID IT WAS DISCONTINUED AS WELL AS SH4 AND sh origins but i was lucky enough to get Silent Hill 2 preowned in good condition. The only reason why i played SH homecoming was to actually see how bad it was after hear how bad it was and yes i was serverly dissapointed with it because of the combat system, to dark in places, graphics, the lip syncing and the all of the references to the movie but the only redeeming feature of the game was the beautiful singing from Mary Elizabeth Mcglynn (rocks!) and i will also be preordring Downpour and the HD collection for XBOX 360 and by the way all of the Silent Hill games i mentioned that were discontinued were in Australia this is where i live.
Good move playing SHH in spite of the negative word of mouth … I never liked it either, but so much of the Silent Hill experience is so subjective that it’s always a good idea to try all of it out yourself and not take anyone’s word for it. For instance, SH2 is my favorite game and it has the reputation for being the best in the series, but a lot of people will tell you it’s near the bottom of the list for them, because its story is so independent of the “main” storyline of the series, and they think the protagonist is kind of a whiny goof, lol. All the games are worth at least one playthrough, and they’re all a bit devisive in their own ways, so i’d recommend playing all of them as the opportunities are presented no matter what you may have heard about them individually.
Silent Hill 3 is everything Homecoming was not, IMO. I don’t have a doubt in the world that you’ll love it when you finally get the chance to play it.

Mary does sound lighter – she just doesn’t sound like an entirely different person. I think this adds some credibility to James’s confusion.
I think the redub is in good hands with Mary Elizabeth. She is a great voice actress, and has plenty of experience directing as well. I agree Mary tone should be slightly lighter to give a small diffrence between her and Maria. But other than that I think the voices are going to be great. Regardless though of wether they are good or not, I will still buy it because i’m a fan of Silent Hill. And as a fan I have a belife that you should stick through a series through both bad and good. Just my Honest opinion… Other than that keep up the great work guys ^^!

*sigh* Even though the dispute has been settled the idea of a replacement voice actress playing Angela and Claudia to be *in spirit* is really foolish from a casting standpoint. In Japan the voice for Solid Snake also played Solidus yet for the English voices it’s two different actors.
There should be no restrictions or the like simply because that was how it was done in the original games. They are two different characters, and as such you could very well miss out on another actress that could have been suitable for either character. For the originals Donna was chosen off her talent. And you’re only using one actress for two different characters out of “spirit”?
Just another reason why I’m weary about the replacement performances.
