Intro: “Die” Akira Yamaoka (Silent Hill Original Soundtrack)
Credits: “Waiting for You” Akira Yamaoka (Waiting For You ~Live at Heaven’s Night~)

A couple of things I also wanted to mention:
Soundtrack: I thought it was well grounded, very ambient, which makes for a very refined set of songs, appropriate for silent hill. But it was a bit underwhelming when it comes to Otherworld tracks. there was nothing that said “panic mode” or made you really feel a sense of dread. Plus, by this point, you can tell that Akira was already running out of ideas. Listen to Elle Theme (SHH) & Letter – From The Lost Days (SH3) back-to-back and tell me that it doesn’t have the same beats, progression, & song structure. Listen to The Terminal Show (SHH) & then to Never Forgive Me, Never Forget Me (SH3), is it not the same song with different instrumentation. It doesn’t seem coincidental, it seems blatant.
Nowhere: it was literally nowhere in this game!
Boogey Man (I guess that’s what he’s called): To me, I think people have such a problem with PH being in Homecoming (and the movies) because of their previous understanding of him. A quote from Masahiro Ito goes, “In the religion of Silent hill, Valtiel exists as one who is close to The God, and Pyramid Head takes the shape of Valtiel’s reason for existense. That is to say, the Pyramid Head character was born from the townspeoples’ idolatrous idealogies.” The interpretation that PH only existed for James is a conclusion that fans came to…I don’t think it’s the correct one (it is poetically correct however). I could go deeper into it but the bottom line is that I believe PH can belong to all of Silent Hill & not just James.
Thanks for having me on & I hope everyone enjoys it!
BTW Austin I don’t think I said I saw anyone “fucking” at 1:37 haha whatever I was cut off on your end. I’ll have to listen to my skype recording when I get home and see what the hell I was saying cause I know it wasn’t that XD
I listen to everyone one of your podcasts. And this podcast you did about Homecoming, I think its great. I kept hearing that people hated this game, but when I first played Homecoming, I thought it was alright. It was totaly different from the preivous Silent Hill games but I still loved it. The puzzles did suck and I do miss the dymitic camera angles.
Thanks for listening! We plan to do my games discussions in the future so stay tuned
Honestly, the woman at the hotel is Alex’s mom as the guy in the chapel/opening is Alex’s dad. The postcards are her memories. I don’t know if Alex ever says anything to support this, but it’s the same voice. It also makes more sense than Dahlia.
I mean, why not have a, uh, scene or part where you interact with her? A forgive her type of thing, like you do with your father towards the end. That’s just me though.
Another thing is, and I don’t mean to double post, but it would make even more sense for that to be his mom in the Hotel since The Boogeyman is there. The Boogeyman is in the game to punish Alex’s father so why not his mother too? It’s their fault, inadvertently, for failing the ritual.
Origins was my second experience with a Silent Hill game, and i enjoyed it quite a bit. So it’s no wonder that I enjoyed Homecoming as well. I think it was mainly an experiment as to how they can expand the Silent Hill world. Before Homecoming we only had brames (not sure i spelled that right) as the only other town located next to silent hill. But homecoming realy helped create a better Mythos as to how Silent Hill affects the world around it. SHh wasn’t the most emotional Silent Hill, but seeing how it was the American teams second try at the series, I cant say its the worst game… Keep up the great work guys I always enjoy your discussions^^!
Good review of the game and I agree with the glitches. I have not played the game since 2008 so I don’t remember everything but one thing I did remember is a glitch on the PS3 version.
When I was in the sewers everything went pitch black and I couldn’t find my way. Thankfully, I finally got through it due to the button prompt. Another thing as mentioned on this podcast on the 360 version is you could never skip the mine elevator level which got annoying.
Silent Hill Homecoming gets an 8 out of 10 to me. I didn’t experience ANY of the glitches you guys mentioned happening to you. I have the 360 version. But I wont argue, because I’m sure they did happen to you.
SH Shattered Memories and SH Book Of Memories are the WORST Silent Hill games in the series. Yeah, I know i havent played SH BOM yet, but I’m 99 percent right about things, and I highly doubt that i’ll be wrong this time. It will suck!!
Overall this was a very good podcast, even though there were quite a few points on SH Homecoming that I disagreed with, you also made some well thought out/understandable points such as plot inconsistencies, limited scope and the dreaded “Flashlight”.
Things I didn’t agree with were the combat, the monster designs, and the certain points about the story, such as the characters and some of their actions. I felt the combat was a breath of fresh air, and DID NOT make the game feel overly action-ey. As much as I love SH2 and 3, they were alot of issues gameplay-wise with them, namely combat..combat in those games were bad pretty much broken, and took alot of the enjoyment out of playing them. I never agreed with fans saying that bad controls and gameplay made the early Silent Hill games good. That’s plain not true and are the words of people wit lousy tastes and perspectives in the elements of good gaming.
I really wish I could have been on that podcast with you guys. I would have made some really good counterpoints to a good amount of your comments about SH Homecoming, though I would have agreed with a number of them as well.
I enjoyed the podcast, but you guys should totally stop using Skype..SKYPE SUCKS!! I co-run a site, and we have a podcast program.. we use Teamspeak 3 instead of Skype. I highly recommend Teamspeak 3 as the connection and bandwidth quality are damn good, not to mention that the program allows everyone to record audio ..and it’s all free of charge.
As a big Silent Hill fan, I would really like to do a SH themed podcast episode with a couple of you guys as guests. Would that be cool?? Could I send you guys an email about that??
Keep up the good work..peace!!
